if I had read this at a younger age, this would’ve been rated higher. This feels a bit too much like a cliche story that’s supposed to make you feel good and go chase your dreams (or read it as “personal legend”).

“When you want something, the universe conspires you to achieve it”. Would’ve been something that I believed in.

Still remember watching One Piece so intensely, also trying to believe that Luffy will find the One piece. Alas, the journey continues and One piece remains elusive.

Though, In this story, Santiago did find his treasure. His personal legend. As well as reunite with his fiancé, Fatema, also his personal legend (once upon a time, that was a Spanish merchant).

Unrelated, wondering what the Alchemist's personal legend is.

There was a line that shares Fatema who was the woman of the desert, and at the core, a woman. Why does that justify that her man can just leave her in waits while he goes and achieve his personal legend. What about herself?! Is her personal legend just to fetch water from the oasis, care for the home?

To credit the author, it was written in a very accessible way. Might cater better to young adults.
